Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2005 Vintage) Closed-in at first pass and then opening as it sits in the glass, this one eventually discloses aromatic richness and focus that are hard to find initially. One needs a fair bit of faith to commit to the wine, but HDV Chardonnay has been very good in the past, and those who have liked previous efforts might care to take a flyer her...
International Wine Cellar(2005 Vintage) Pale yellow. Wild aromas of lemon thyme, melon, beeswax and talc. Savory rather than sweet, with a saline character and solid underlying minerality to the brisk, dusty flavors of ginger, orange oil, chalk and game. Distinctly pungent, soil-inflected chardonnay that I never would have picked as coming from California. Finishes with good chewy density and excellent subtle length.
