91-93 in community Surprisingly approachable already though with some expressive alcohol. This wine is full of ripe sweet cherry and dark fruits, complemented by chocolate, leather, earthy mushroom, incense-like oaky vanilla secondary notes. Fresh, lively impression with somewhat chewy tannins and considerable acidity that breeze through the finish. (676 views) Tasted by Jack on 6/28/2011: PnPd. Spritz masked some pretty big fruit. 3 hours later it was worse. Spritz oak and alc. dominated. Opened something else to drink with dinner. 6 hours later the spritz started to subsided and the wine started to strut. Terrible to begin with - worse after three hours and really good after six hours. Day 2 - Still out of balance. While good it is over blown and needs a lot of time to settle down. 89 pts today. Wine Spectator(2008 Vintage) "This is deliciously ripe, with layers of crushed plum, anise, black- berry and boysenberry fruit, all laced with plenty of spice and fruitcake notes. There’s lots of mulled raisin on the finish, but this stays nicely driven, with well-imbedded acidity. Contains the lots that usually go into the Chaupin cuvée, and it shows. Best from 2011 through 2022." "Only two cuvees of Chateauneuf du Pape were made in 2008. The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape possesses more Mourvedre than u...
Wine & Spirits(2005 Vintage) The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape has a deep black/purple color and a sweet nose of charcoal, black cherries, raspberry, and some Provencal herbs and pepper. In the mouth itrsquo;s tannic and clearly a vin de garde with refreshing acidity, real vibrancy, but surprising power and length. As Christophe Sabon said, ldquo;Itrsquo;s a wine that comes across as feminine because of the high acids and low pH, but then the finished alcohol is close to fifteen percent!rdquo; Give this wine 3ndash;5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following fifteen as it will be extremely long-lived.
