2007 Chateau Petrus Pomerol

Wine Description

Sweet fruited and balanced with red berry and spice notes. There's a depth of fruit but not the power and intensity of 2005 or 2006. Less massive and more elegant in style, the finish long and clean.

The delicious 2007 is the first Petrus in a number of years that can be drunk immediately. Relatively big for the vintage, it offers a dark plum/ruby/purple color as well as aromas of mulberries, black cherries, cedarwood, and soil undertones, loads of fruit, a plump, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and low acidity.

Winemaker's Notes

Currently closed and backward, this wine seems to share a more similarcharacter to Trotanoy than in any recent vintages I recall. Powerful, structured, masculine, but a long-term proposition, this darkruby/purple-colored wine displays notes of caramelized, sweet black cherriesand wild berry fruit with plenty of spice, earth, and a hint of herbaceousness. The wine has very high tannins, impressive concentration, but thatmouth-searing level of tannin. (From 1982 Vintage) "Dark ruby garnet. Intense tobacco, cedar, berry and blackberry. Full-bodied, silky, firm and fresh. Long. A beauty. One of the best bottles I have ever had.--Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now." "Given what I thought this wine would achieve, the 1982 Petrus has not turned out to be nearly as profound as expected. It reveals a certain herbaceousness, and there is significantly less concentration than I initially believed (too much filtration?) along with a cedary spiciness. Tasters who have had n...

(From 1985 Vintage) Rating: 0/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Very deep red; sweet oaky nose, immensely stylish, discreet; very rich and concentrated, dense, powerful, tight, lacks a little zip but very impressive, chocolatey; very good length.
  • Robert Parker
(From 1998 Vintage) "The 1998 Petrus is unquestionably a fabulous effort boasting a dense plum/purple color as well as an extraordinary nose of black fruits intermixed with caramel, mocha, and vanilla. Exceptionally pure, super-concentrated, and extremely full-bodied, with admirable underlying acidity as well as sweet tannin, it reveals a superb mid-palate in addition to the luxurious richness for which this great property is known. The finish lasts for 40-45 seconds. Patience will definitely be required. Production...
