Vintage Notes The 2003 vintage was a season of contrasts—a cool wet spring, then warm late May, cool June-July and wet August, followed by heat waves in September-October leading to a late harvest finale in November! The even pace of harvest allowed us to pick fruit at optimum maturity. The quality of the late-picked grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon was excellent. The extended summer-like weather in fall was ultimately the key factor in producing high quality fruit this vintage. Wine & Spirits(From 2000 Vintage) BV's flagship offering, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve reveals a saturated ruby/purple color along with an intriguing perfume of black currants, lead pencil shavings, loamy soil, and wood. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and elegant, this Bordeaux-styled Cabernet finishes a bit short. The aromatics suggest a 90-point wine, and the flavors and finish something in the upper eighties. While it will not rank alongside any of the great BV Private Reserves from the fifties, sixties, seventies, or early eighties, it is a positive development for this historic estate.
