Wine Description

(2015 Vintage) Founded in 2002, A to Z Wineworks is Oregon's fastest growing winery. The partners blend unique skills. Bill Hatcher brought an extensive background in strategy and finance to the Oregon wine industry and Domaine Drouhin Oregon, which he managed for 13 years before co-founding A to Z. Debra Hatcher spearheads marketing, promotion and design. Sam Tannahill and Cheryl Francis, winemakers respectively for Archery Summit and Chehalem for 8 years, bring surpassing creativity and technical expertise resulting in the same quality at 120,000 cases as with the inaugural 2,500 that earned them Food and Wine Magazine's award for the best American Pinot Noir under $20. The 2006 A to Z Pinot Gris is blended from over 18 different lots of wine, all either produced by A to Z or made for them under their direction from purchased grapes. A small portion of the wine did undergo partial malolactic fermentation for a creamy mouthfeel, but for the most part malolactic fermentation was blocked to retain bright acidity to balance the ripe character of the vintage.

(2015 Vintage) The price of this all-occasion white wine keeps creeping up, but the quality stays high, even as production levels push toward six figures. It’s lightly spritzy, pale lemon in color, and tastes remarkably like grapefruit, with a gentle dusting of sugar. As fresh as can be, it should be drunk slightly chilled, paired with something like chicken breasts in a citrus sauce.
