(2011 Vintage) A superb vintage for many varieties, Cabernet grew particularly well in 2012. We observed the typical tremendous quality from our hillside blocks but with higher yields than we’ve ever observed. While this still meant less than 3 tons per acre on the slopes, it permitted us the unusual opportunity to explore a near 100% Cabernet blend. Working to use the restraint we enjoyed from 2011, we explored the natural variation Star Lane Vineyard creates in Cabernet to provide a palette of colors for blending. This wine represents a cross section of several blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon from multiple elevations, slopes, and aspects. Fermented without commercial yeast, handling gently to place reigns on Star Lane’s structure, we worked to promote a transparent, structured wine.
This is an intense ruby-colored Cabernet Sauvignon with lots of pulpy cassis fruit and dense chocolate on the nose and palate. The wine sees 20 months in oak, 40% of which is new. Truly a delicious wine and a stunning value. -Astorwines.com
Full bodied, juicy and lots of dark berry with leather and chocolate undertones. Moderately tannic with a smooth finish. Give it some time to breathe.
