Deep ruby. Candied dark berry and kirsch aromas, with slow-building fruitcake and roasted coffee qualities. Thick and almost syrupy, with fat blackberry, bitter cherry and chocolate fudge flavors, a vaguely herbal character and no apparent acidity or tannins. Clings to the palate on the finish like a fruit syrup. This is the style that has made modern Australia's reputation, for better or worse. Fans of elegant wines will likely find this shiraz alarmingly viscous and cloyingly sweet - not to mention lacking in energy and finesse - but it does have its fans.

Supple-textured, full-flavored, with well-integrated tannin, this hedonistic effort will evolve for 3-5 years but can be enjoyed now and over the next 10 years."
