Wine Description

(From 2012 Vintage) Dark purple depths relinquish layers of brooding, black fruits and sultry spices in our 2011 Heritage Clones Petite Sirah. The wine shows it’s signature gaminess and earthy spices but the cool conditions of the vintage allow the fruit to share the stage, with an upfront juiciness and rich layers of blackberry, cassis and cherry jam. Notes of soy, cocoa and fresh nutmeg join the fruit from the nose all the way through the back of the palate. Bright acid lifts the finish for a long, satisfying finale that begs another sip. Enjoy this hearty wine with big, beefy dishes such as Boeuf Bourguignon or pasta with wild mushroom sauce.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2012 Vintage) Our Heritage Clones Petite Sirah is named in reference to, and in reverence of, the old clones that make up this wine. Sourced primarily from vineyards in Contra Costa County and Clarksburg, the grapes come from some of the few old plantings of Petite Sirah found in the state. Early settlers originally planted the vines as a blending varietal for other wines, but when we found it, we immediately fell in love. With its inky, dark fruit and tanned leather and spice character, we quickly determined that this unique fruit needed its own bottle. The Sacramento Delta influence and sandy loam soil of this region, combined with the age of the vines, give these grapes deep, rich flavors for a big-shouldered wine.
