While all of our wines make people smile, some days it just seems all anybody wants is Cab. “Are you sure there aren’t just a few bottles of the 1999 left?” “Why can’t we buy the 2000 now? We promise we won’t drink it until fall!” Well, the drought is over and the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is another gangbuster – the ideal marriage of mountain grown fruit and meticulous winemaking. We promise we won’t drink it until fall!” Well, the drought is over and the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is another gangbuster – the ideal marriage of mountain grown fruit and meticulous winemaking. A long growing season of warm days and cool nights began with bud break on the first day of spring and gave us completely mature fruit with no sacrifice in acidity. Perfect pollination meant that each cluster ripened evenly. Dark enough to dip your fountain pen in, thoroughly ripe aromas seem to roar from the glass with the characters of black cherry and dark chocolate. Immense on the palate, the approachable tannins immediately flood your entire mouth with ripe berry flavor, punctuated with suggestions of cedar and espresso beans. The finish of this amazingly full-bodied. Cabernet continues to coat the palate with soft, chewy and flavorful tannins long after the glass is empty. (hide)

    (From 2000 Vintage) Good full, bright ruby. Precise aromas of blackberry, minerals, menthol, cedar and slate. Supple and suave, with a slightly high-toned quality to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. A real crushed-berry bomb, with good acid cut and supple broad tannins. Steve Pride noted that this wine was more aggressive in the mid-'90s; the winery introduced a gentler destemmer with vintage 2008 and is now pressing the fruit more gently. There's now less in the way of oak tannins in the finished wines, he added.

    (From 2010 Vintage) The enticing nose is loaded with ripe blackberries, cherry, plum, subtle tarry notes, dark chocolate and resinous underbrush. The palate is a seamless mesh of velvety tannins with vibrant acidity and undulating layers of fruit, tobacco and spice notes.
    Sally Johnson received a degree in oenology from the University of California, Davis. Her career began in 1999 at St. Francis winery in Sonoma, California. Today she makes wine for Pride Mountain Vineyards in Sonoma County where her wines have received international attention.
