(From 2012 Vintage) Deep colour; the bouquet adds to the expectation with sweet leather a la Hunter Valley, licorice and a caravan of spices. The sheer finesse of the palate brings the wheel full circle; French oak adds to the cedary/savoury/spicy elements behind blackberry and plum fruit.
(From 2012 Vintage) Deep red with a good purple tint; the aroma is well integrated with nothing standing out: nicely balanced spice and berry, smoke and toasty-barrel touches, earth and dark-plum and traces of black pepper. The palate is intense and full-bodied, with a good degree of elegance but also plenty of trad Penfolds bite and grip. A superbly rich, balanced and rounded wine.
Medium weight and firm in texture, Bin 389 is packed with dark berry, tar, black olive and warm brick flavours on a juicy frame. The tannins have grip, so give this one a few years aging for the best results. Best from 2011 to 2016.
fruit bomb without harsh acidity
