Wine Description

(From 2011 Vintage) Deep in the heart of Spain’s arid Aragón region, Garnacha grapes thrive in an unforgiving rocky terrain. Spain is one of the few places on Earth where vintners bottle the grape in its pure form, making Las Rocas Garnacha a unique and soughtafter wine. Rooted deeply in limestone soils at elevations up to 3,500 feet, the vines see intense sunlight and cool nightly temperatures, which produce intensely flavored fruit with an extraordinary structure. Pair this full-bodied red with hearty braised or roasted meats, earthy legume and vegetable dishes, and game.

Winemaker's Notes

Full flavored spicy wine with a supple mineral texture and no hard edges. Medium to full bodied, fruit driven wine.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:  91 points

Deep ruby. Rich kirsch and blackberry aromas are complicated by mocha and licorice. Smoky dark berry aromas pack serious punch and are supported by suave tannins. Finishes clean, lively and persistent...

"The grapes for Las Rocas are sourced from high altitude 70- to 100-year-old Garnacha vineyards. The 2006 Las Rocas Garnacha is dark crimson-colored with an alluring nose of spice box, mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry. Smooth-textured, round, and with no hard edges, this tasty effort is designed for immediate gratification. This is one worth buying by the case."Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate91 Points
