Appellation AmericaJoining the ranks of families moving to Napa to capture the bucolic lifestyle, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley in 1964. At this time the Chappellets, Mondavis, Davies’ and other icons were setting up shop as well. It wasn’t until 1981, though, after Louis passed away, that a Honig-labeled wine came to fruition. Up until that point neighboring wineries were purchasing the estate’s sustainably farmed Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Both wines are good values, and are as pleasurable to encounter as the family members. Elaine is a wonderful ambassador, touring the country to both promote the wines and to host numerous charitable events. Her “Wine, Women, and Shoes” events have raised over a million dollars for women’s charities. Pale straw and moderately viscous, this Sauvignon Blanc is clean with aromas of hay, lemon, dill, and tarragon.
