Firriato Chiaramonte

Wine Details

Nero D'avola

Wine Description

(From 2012 Vintage) Soil composition: medium texture, mostly clayey Every one of Firriato’s estates boasts the privilege of producing very different wines thanks to the singular orographic and weather conditions that distinguish each terroir. The Dagala Borromeo estate is distinguished by very fertile, sandy loam soil, which is deep, with good structure and relatively poor in mineral elements, producing a wine of excellent quality. Chiaramonte Nero D’Avola faithfully reflects the personality and character of the most important black grape variety of Sicily, immediately evident in its intense ruby red colour. Captivating on the nose, it unfolds with delicious, clear notes of small red berries and lovingly intertwined spices. It has a round, well-structured flavour. Equipped with soft, elegant tannins and a well-balanced palate, this wine is classed as one of the classic wines of Sicily. Colour: intense ruby red, edged with bright purple nuances. Nose: displays impeccable and fragrant fruitiness, of surprising clarity, going on to reveal aromas of plums and blackberries, black cherries and blueberries, cloves, black pepper, liquorice, dark chocolate and houmous. Palate: skilfully combines its innate power with an expressive softness, revealing a deep, caressing and decisive character attenuated by silky smooth and appealing tannins; the nose-palate symmetry is exemplary. Characteristics: produced exclusively from the most important of the Sicilian red grape varieties, it is an audacious wine with a strong personality, at times austere and restrained; its exceptional nature will come to the fore if allowed to express itself in its own time, it likes to be pandered to.
