(From 2012 Vintage) Most notable about Hallberg Ranch is that it is completely farmed without irrigation. Although the other vineyards of Emeritus are being weaned off their irrigation Hallberg has been the first to become totally independent of an artificial addition of water. Dry-farming helps the grapes achieve full physiological ripeness at lower sugar levels, with more complex taste components in heightened balance. With no dehydration, the vines become more naturally in balance with the soil and climate giving the wine a more pure expression of its unique terroir.
(From 2011 Vintage) The 2011 vintage provided a rare occasion in California to make a wine elegant in style, more delicate, more fragrant and more feminine in nature than usual. This is a joyful wine that retains its freshness yet remains reserved. It is lively with vibrant acidity that carries red fruit aromas of strawberry and raspberry. This is a very special vintage for us—the year dry farming finally fulfilled its promise.
