Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2006 Vintage) This wine gives itself away on the first sniff. Despite having plenty of ripeness to its aromas and clearly gifted with a dense, extracted character that suggests a tough guy to come on the palate, it falls a trifle short in fruit at the start and is unable to muster enough of it on the palate to overcome its hard- edged tannins at the backend. Close but no cigar is the requisite conclusion with this one.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2004 Vintage) Smelling mildly of green tea and cola, and at all points a bit tentative in fruit, this soft yet slightly narrow wine shows a smattering of red cherries here and there, but it wants for both filling and depth. Its relatively viscous beginnings are contrasted by a brief bit of finishing stiffness, and it lacks in varietal conviction.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2005 Vintage) Very nicely focused red cherry fruit scents make the early going here, and that ripe, extracted, almost juicy quality is joined by ample oak and a hint of sarsaparilla. A fairly full-bodied wine on the palate, but blessed with good balance, this wine shows well from front to back and has the potential to get better with age.
