(2009 Vintage) Dark and ripe, with blackberry, plum and fig fruit layered with notes of ganache, charcoal and dark olive. This cuts a broad, smoky path through the finish, offering some slightly chewy grip and ample flesh. A lovely lingering bay leaf hint adds extra nuance.
International Wine Cellar(1998 Vintage) Warm red-ruby color. Kaleidoscopic nose of sappy cherry syrup, game, licorice, animal fur and espresso. Liqueur-like flavor of maraschino cherry firmed by underlying minerality. Huge, mouthcoating back end throws off notes of black cherry, tar, minerals and roasted herbs. A Chateauneuf with extraordinary chewiness, breadth and length. This wine aged in foudre for its first two years, and then went into pieces; it was bottled only this past September, nearly four years after the harvest.
