Wine Description

Eroica is the result of a special partnership of German and American winemakers to craft an extraordinary Riesling from Washington State grapes. This is more than a blend of two estates, Dr. Loosen from the Mosel and Chateau Ste. Michelle from the Columbia Valley: It's an intermingling of Old World and New World philosophy and technique. Eroica reflects not only its variety and site, but also its heritage: bold and forward from its Washington roots, elegant and refined from German inspiration. Na...

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
While there is no questioning the fruit or the balance of this carefully made, squeaky clean wine, we admit to wanting a bit more in the way of intensity and depth. Its slight sugars are teamed with well-proportioned acids, and it is bright and lively from beginning to end. We would not be surprised if it blossoms with a few years in the bottle, but, for now, it needs pairing with lighter foods.

Peach, menthol and a distinctly stony, fusel, slatey quality on the nose. Broad, ripe and moderately sweet, but the sexy, nuanced flavors of peach, minerals and crushed stone give the wine an exhilaratingly dry quality. Rich and long on the aftertaste, with a repeating fusel note. Partner Ernie Loosen must have tracked in the wine's slatey element on his shoes from his estate in the Mosel.
