Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2005 Vintage) This nicely filled wine is fairly forthright in its ripeness and comes just a bit closer to the Californian model as far as flesh and fat are concerned. After a very rich start, it firms up and tightens a touch in the latter going, and ample tannins arrive to provide the right structural grip to its nicely sustained finish. While there are aspects about it that might encourage early drinking, this one will not be at its best for six to ten years.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2003 Vintage) Another wine from St. Julien that caught our attention, this one is deep, ripe, curranty and full of Cabernet flavor. We also like Chateau Branaire-Ducru and Chateau Talbot from the same commune. The Cabernet based wines from the communes north of Bordeaux seemed to have fared extremely well. This wine and Branaire-Ducru rate 90 points and up while the Talbot should be a reasonable value, if its price does not escalate, in the 88-90 point range

Decanter(From 2001 Vintage) Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Big, deep colour that sticks to the glass. Slightly tanky and firm nose, lots of ripe cassis fruit but also quite high acidity. Very good extraction and ripeness, needs time to settle down. (Tasted en primeur)
