(From 2003 Vintage) Opulent aromas of blackberry, olives and toasted oak follow through to a full-bodied palate, with big chewy tannins and a long, long finish.
(From 2001 Vintage) Ruby-red. Aromas of roasted plum, tobacco, chocolate and smoky oak. Suave and vinous, with lively acidity giving the wine excellent balance. Not especially powerful but a lovely, classic midweight.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines70% Cabernet Sauvignon; 22% Merlot; 5% Cabernet Franc; 3% Petit Verdot. It is easy to be drawn in by this bottling's complex aromas and nicely layered flavors of currants, cherries and stony soil, and the wine conveys a good sense of richness and depth, but intrusive tannins presently dry out its finish and mandate at least five years of age.
