Wine Description

Musky aromas of black raspberry and espresso. Suave and sweet on entry, then dense and pure in the middle palate, with superb energy and intensity to its perfumed flavors of dark berries, violet, lico...

Ausone's second wine, La Chapelle d'Ausone, is better than most Ausone cuveeswere in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. Made in the style of its biggersibling, but with softer tannin and not nearly the sublime concentration, the2006 reveals aromas, flavors, and a character similar to Ausone. This beautymust be tasted to be believed. It should drink well for 25+ years. (www.erobertparker.com)

(1989 Vintage) Rating: 0/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. Fairly deep red; lean oaky nose that developed elegance with aeration; medium-bodied, svelte, concentrated, quite firm, a touch rugged and less elegant than nose, indeed somewhat dull; quite good length.

(1990 Vintage) Rating: 92(+?) - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 103, July/August 2002. ($275) Red-ruby with a hint of amber at the edge. Red cherry, redcurrant, minerals, chocolate and a medicinal hint of cough syrup on the nose. Minerally, fresh and juicy, with penetrating acids framing the rich fruit. Finishes very long, with dusty tannins spreading over the entire palate. Turned slightly dry as it opened in the glass.

This intense 2005 boasts powerful, super-layered, multidimensional flavors with tremendous extraction, yet they come acros...

(2002 Vintage) Saturated ruby-red. Explosive aromas of blackberry, minerals, violet, espresso and bitter chocolate. Fine-grained and pliant but with terrific precision of flavor and grip. Finishes juicy and very long, with substantial dusty tannins and excellent life and lift.
