Black Shadow 2006 North Coast Syrah

Wine Details

Wine Description

(2006 Vintage)

Classic, elegant and modest – that’s what you expect of basic black. Whether it’s a little black dress or a traditional dinner jacket, you need a reliable staple, something that’s versatile and ready to go on a moment’s notice. That’s exactly what we’ve delivered in our signature Syrah – an essential, chic and reasonably priced red.

Partnered with poultry, Syrah acts as a foil to what might otherwise be a dull dry white meat providing a refreshing contrast of berries and a cracked pepper quality similar to the seasoning on the bird. Think of it like a side of cranberry sauce.

In a more casual setting with barbecued or grilled meats, it adds interest with peppery smoke elements and a lively interplay of fruit and spice. North Coast grapes from mainly Mendocino and Sonoma Counties give our 2006 Syrah all the intensity of a red Hermitage, yet at a fraction of the price.

Silver Medal, 2010 World Wine Championships:

"Mild aromas of cherry and banana custard and cedar shavings with a supple, dryish medium body and a juicy, tangy blackberry, melted chocolate bar and whipped cream finish. Very tasty and balanced." (01/06/2011)

Tasting Notes

Hallmark graphite, pepper and smoke aromas, silky raspberry and dark plum fruit flavors, accented by notes of smoke and roasted coffee.

Serving Suggestions

Roasted and grilled meats (white or red); hearty dishes like stew; rustic appetizers such as cured meats and bruschetta; a steak loaded with peppers to bring out the wine’s peppery quality.

Perfect for the wine lover who:

... will go to any length (including sweeping the snow off the Weber grill) to perfectly pair this juicy, bold wine with equally rich, spicy food.
