(From 2012 Vintage) The Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir is the color of a black ruby. It has an intoxicating aromatic profile that fills the room and unfolds over the course of a few hours. Starting with savory tones including meat, olives and herbs, it evolves into the sweet black fruits including blackberries, dark cherries and currants that are found surrounding the property. There is a subtle black tea component that is found on the finish, followed by sweet baking spice. It’s youthfulness now does not betray its seriousness to come over the next decade or two. Whole cluster fermentation at 70%, showcases the power of the vintage and vineyard site. This style of fermentation highlights the wild grilled meats and herbal notes that are balanced by a sweet floral character. Rich and expansive and loaded with bright succulent acidity this wine is very powerful now. It finishes with the telltale mineral expression that is characteristic of the Dundee Hills. THIS WINE CAN BE AGED FOR 10-20 YEARS
(From 2010 Vintage) Lovely crimson colour and very fruit forward nose. Cherries and red currants with a blast of musty leather. The palette is still very closed with only a hint of the fruit and some violets coming through, not quite in harmony.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesShowing the tight structure that only the coolest growing areas seem to produce in Pinot Noir, this keenly defined bottling is all dark cherries, oak, dark chocolate and toast in the nose while its palatal impacts are initially supple and inviting. Tannin grabs the stage by mid-palate however, and this very well-made, wholly convincing effort wants two to five years of cellaring before it is going to show itself at its best.
