(2013 Vintage) Robust but refined, this Cabernet has layered aromatics of cassis, black cherry and cocoa with a note of black licorice. Flavors of currant, mocha, vanilla, spice and more dark cherry precede a long, smooth finish. This wine shows off good structure and generous tannins.
Few winemakers can oak-age a wine as successfully as St. Francis winemaker Tom Mackey. Opulent, fragrant oak nuances add complexity in this Cabernet Sauvignon, which was aged for 14 months in new American and French oak barrels and is made with grapes from five different appellations in Sonoma County. Sourced from a variety of Sonoma County ranches, the 2005 Cabernet combines generous power, luscious mouthfeel, dark color and berry-like flavors in an ideal table wine - big, aromatic and firm-flavored, yet approachable.
Smooth if not just a little bland. Good aroma.
