Robert Mondavi created the first fume Blanc in 1966 - a crisp, barrel-aged, wine that captured the vivid character of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Our Fume Blanc exhibits bright citrus, melon, floral and mineral character from Napa Valley vineyards and a silky texture from sur lie barrel aging.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesIn this latest incarnation, the Mondavi Fume comes across as a crisp and compact youngster with reasonable fruit depth and a few stiff edges to lose. It leans to the grassy side of the varietal spectrum and makes scant use of oak and finds a nice note of lemon zest at the finish. Drink it now with the likes of broiled fish, but expect it to show a little more polish with even five or six months more time in bottle.
