(From 2006 Vintage) Our Moon Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon shows off richly layered aromas and deep, velvety flavors filled with black cherry and cassis character. Bittersweet chocolate and smoky spice nuances add complexity to the rich, dark fruit expression. Supple tannins structure the wine and support the ripe, expansive flavors that persist through the lingering finish.
Appellation America(From 2003 Vintage) The more I taste, the more I like this property. It’s well up the hillside on the east side of Sonoma Valley (if you went over the top you’d be in the Mount Veeder sub-appellation of Napa Valley), between 1,100 and 1,700 feet in elevation. The topography of the site breaks down into dozens of vineyard blocks, so there’s natural complexity in the estate. It’s also farmed without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and some of the blocks are past their 35th birthdays. I have had some hesitation about the amount of new oak that gets applied to the reds, so I was happy to have the wrapper come off read more...this wine after the tasting. Yes, it saw 75% new French oak for most of two years, but there’s so much fruit here that the tannin can’t get out of control. After the initial flood of jammy, ripe red and black fruit fills your mouth, abundant tannins spread out across the palate with grip and warmth; the fruit stays true and even delivers another shot of jam at the finish. You can safely hold this another three years for the tannins to soften, but no longer - you want that ripe buoyant fruit while it’s still fresh. (hide)
