(2005 Vintage) The 2005 Starmont Merlot displays notes of bright cherry, raspberry, fresh herbs, cedar, vanilla and forest. On the palate, the wine has a soft entry and a rich mid-palate that is followed by notes of chocolate. The finish is rich, complex and lingering. Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2005 Vintage) Youthfully outgoing and exuberant, this wine's aromas of black cherries and creamy oak contain a hint of a cotton candy sweet-ness that fits surprisingly well into the vibrant nature of the nose. Fairly polished on the palate and tasting of invitingly lush fruit at the front, the wine then edges into minor notes of heat and hard tannins at the finish. Time is on its side, and we would see it aging for three or four years.
