Wine Details

Pinot Noir

Wine Description

(2005 Vintage) Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. He quickly developed a reputation as a high quality producer and his aim was to build his reputation as a top quality winemaker in Burgundy. To achieve this aim he continued to purchase vineyards to add to the family's earlier purchase of Beaune Clos des Ursules and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles vineyards. His Grandson, who took over at the end of WWII continued to build Louis Jadot's Domaine holdings by acquiring Grand Cru vineyards in Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne. Volnay lies roughly in the centre read more...of the Côte de Beaune, bordered by Pommard to the Northeast, Monthélie to the West and Meursault to the South. The south-easterly exposed vineyards produce only red wines and 26 Premiers Crus. The soil is extremely thin, chalky, high in calcium and yield the lightest most delicate wines. The strip below, where most of the Premiers Crus are located, is much lower in chalk with a thin iron rich layer covering a strong subsoil. Nice aromas of red berries and violets, and some pepper. A young Volnay Clos des Chênes will be perfect with poultry or roasted meat. In a great vintage it will also match game very well. (hide)
