(From 2014 Vintage) Low rainfall in the winter and spring followed by a warm, temperate summer caused fruit across California to mature faster and be picked earlier. The shorter than normal growing season caused the fruit to develop faster resulting in intense fruit flavors and soft acidity. Small fruit clusters from decades-old, head trained vines in Lodi and Amador make up the larger part of this blend giving the wine it’s intense concentration. Fruit from the cool.
In 2005, the California Zinfandel is sourced from vineyards in Napa, Lodi, Amador, and Sonoma. An expressive blend of classic, old zinfandel vineyards in the best grape-growing regions. Many of the vineyards are old, dry farmed, head-trained vines which produce concentrated fruit. This wine is dark ruby red color with supple, mouth-filling tannins that lend to structure, depth, and an elegant balance. Classic currant, plum and sweet oak aromas lead to juicy black fruit and spicy flavors with a long, juicy finish.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesLow in tannin, a bit soft in balance and comparatively smooth in feel, this clean and very accessible effort smacks of both berries and ripe cherries without showing much in the way of depth or structural spine. It is a tasty and fairly likeable wine for current consumption, and it will not benefit appreciably from quiet time in the cellar.
