Gundlach Bundschu Rhinefarm Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2003 Vintage) The deep garnet color and intense aromas of the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon foreshadow the concentrated black currant, cassis and Christmas spice flavors to follow. Bright acidity and firm tannins frame the lush texture, leading to a long ripe finish dense with cocoa and molasses flavors. Delicious upon release; optimal cellaring time 2 to 15 years.Blend: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Scattered suggestions of tobacco, leather and briar are juxtaposed with those of red plums and cherries in this solid, but unspectacular wine. While we like its fruity direction, it tends to soften and dry as it goes, and the woodsy spice and slight tannin that show at the end are a scant step ahead of the wine's fruit.
