(From 2011 Vintage) Grgich Hills co-fermented the Zinfandel with a touch of Petite Sirah to add complexity and structure, and then aged the wine in large oak casks so the flavors are well integrated but not overwhelmed by oak. This food-friendly Zinfandel's pure flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and a hint of white pepper make it the perfect match for grilled meats, lasagna, pizza topped with tomato sauce and beef stews.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2006 Vintage) 5% Petite Sirah. Both of the Grgich Hills efforts are built along fairly firm lines, but whereas its pricey partner convinces in fruit, this comparatively stark wine lacks clear definition while coming up short on requisite flesh. Hard and drying with a rush of last-minute tannin, it needs lengthy aging and a full measure of luck to grow into beauty.
