Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2003 Vintage) Sweet and succulent in the nose with a broad appointment of deep, cherry-like fruit and attractive highlights of toast, cream, and caramel, this well-stuffed wine delivers nicely on the palate with solid, fully fruited, ripe-cherry flavors. Both a bit of grippy tannin and apparent heat work to noticeably roughen up the slightly dry finish, yet there is no lack of extract at the end and either further aging or service with richer meats is sure to help smooth things out.
International Wine Cellar(2003 Vintage) Full red. Somewhat low-toned aromas of redcurrant, raspberry jam, chocolate, coffee, underbrush and oak. Supple on entry, then rather extractive and gritty in the middle, with dry-edged flavors of clove and cinnamon. I don't find a lot of fruit here. Finishes with dusty tannins.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2006 Vintage) Grown practically within spitting distance of the Pacific Ocean, out in western Sonoma County, this wine demonstrates again the high potential of the area as well as the tighter line that such wines can achieve. With its ripe cherry prime focus and a touch of pert cherry juice for brightness, this fairly full-bodied wine is solidly varietal if just a touch lean at this point. Like many of its mates from the same year, it deserves a bit of patience.
