Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesBy Dominus. 76% Cabernet Sauvignon; 14% Cabernet Franc; 10% Petit Verdot. Although it opens first with a comparatively complex and elegant nose of raspberries, vanilla, sweet oak and pepper, this bottling proves to be far from refined in the mouth and is very much bound up in tannin. Its fruit fights hard but in the end succumbs to astringency and is likely to do so for many years hence.
International Wine CellarGood deep red-ruby. Complex, enticing aromas of black raspberry, brown spices, game and earth. Sweet and lush, but with a juicy acid spine giving firmness to the dark raspberry, redcurrant and floral flavors. Spicy and shapely for this second wine, with good energy and length.
