2005 Chateau Montelena The Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga Napa Valley

Wine Description

(From 2010 Vintage) The 2010 is shaping up to be another beauty. Violets, freshly cut flowers, mint, spice box and plums all jump from the glass in this vivid, beautifully delineated cabernet.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2008 Vintage) The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a gorgeous, mid-weight wine laced with mint, cassis, sweet herbs and tobacco. It is an understated, gracious wine from start to finish. This is a relatively approachable vintage for the Estate. It shows tons of finesse and mid-palate generosity while maintaining a medium-bodied personality.

tobacco, graphite, leather, raisin. has legs, medium-very dry, extremely dense color at rim. unbelievable!! 3/2013 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of currant, licorice, graphite, bitter chocolate, smoked meat, tobacco and brown spices. Began juicy, penetrating and quite youthfully unevolved, but aeration brought a suppler, rounder texture and more generosity to this impressively structured wine. Complicating notes of bitter cherry, menthol and minerals. This will require a good eight to ten years of aging but the substantial tannins are sweet and lush. Very long, pure and powerful on the finish. (06/2008)

(From 1994 Vintage) Rating: 3/5 - As reviewed by Decanter. An intense nose of black cherries, leather and a touch of lanolin at the back. A mouthfilling yet smooth palate of spicy and well-integrated oak and dark black fruit with Morello cherries dominant.
