2005 Chateau Chasse-Spleen Moulis En Medoc

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2005 Vintage) According to Robert Parker, no less, this estate has over the last 30 yearsconsistently produced wines of Third Growth quality. In 2005, winemakerJean-Pierre Foubet has yet again displayed a sure touch in his handling of thefruit at Chasse-Spleen. A lovely plummy richness is backed by tannins which arevery present and substantial but totally ripe, creating a very harmonious, balanced wine with an almost Margaux-like fragrance.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Despite the fact that this wine is 40% Merlot, it comes equipped with tannins more reminiscent of St. Estephe than anywhere else in Bordeaux. It inner pieces are quite lovely, however, and if one is willing to take the decade-long risk that the currant and wild flower character of its aromas and underlying flavors will emerge fully with time, then this wine offers the chance that substantial rewards are in the offing.
