(2006 Vintage) The 2006 Reserve Shiraz has a very deep garnet-purple color and predominately earthy aromas with notes of tar, black truffles, game and underbrush over dried plums and warm blackberry. Spice box and fresh pipe-tobacco notes emerge after a few moments. The palate leads with structure, displaying a medium to high level of grainy tannins and crisp acidity supporting the concentrated fruit. The finish is long with layers of lingering earth and spice notes.
International Wine CellarInky, glass-staining ruby. An exotic bouquet of red and darker berries, gingerbread, cinnamon and floral scents; a suave vanilla quality gains power with air and carries onto the palate. Lightly chewy black raspberry and bitter cherry skin flavors combine depth with energy, with the spicy qualities repeating on the palate. A late note of dark chocolate adds richness to the long, smooth finish. I found the tannins of this wine to be invisible.
