Wine Description

(2004 Vintage) Gold Medal, 2008 Riverside International Wine Competition! Best of Class, Sierra Foothills, 2007 California State Fair 90 points! "A study in progress, as are all California Temps. This is easily Twisted Oak's best so far. Dry and medium-bodied, it shows rich cherry, red currant, tangerine zest and pepper flavors, rendered complex with earthier notes of tobacco, tar and cedar. The texture is a lovely, lilting silk. A wine to watch." - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, July 2008 "Deep ruby to brick red. A very intriguing nose filed with notes of earth, berry concentrate, fresh read more...herbs, cloves, and cinnamon. The palate is just as expressive being austere while ripe and assertive, showing all things in good measure. Wonderfully balanced and provocative. Very food friendly with great natural acidity. Splendid!" - BevX.com Food Pairings: Tapas! The Rolleri Vineyard is perfectly oriented to take full advantage of the sun exposure here in Calaveras and the vines are now reaching full maturity at 10 years old. Our estate Tempranillo with its brightness and acidity lends a hand to the overall blend, and the dash of Cabernet Sauvignon rounds out the mouthfeel. At the winery, we gently destemmed and crushed the fruit and fermented over 2 weeks. The cap was punched down 4 to 5 times a day during the early part of fermentation, reducing to twice a day in later stages. After two weeks, the must was pressed and then racked into oak barrels for secondary fermentation. We then pulled out the wines, blended in the Cabernet, and then sent the wine back down to barrel for aging.
