Wine Description

(From 2008 Vintage) High-toned notes of red currant or cassis flow immediately from the glass followed by those of nutmeg and cocoa. With a little air, hints of caramel and a delicate smokiness appear. It enters the mouth softly and quickly fills all corners without any heat. Though bone dry, there is an impression of sweetness that comes from grape skins that ripened without severe heat. This wine is immediately gratifying but will definitely open up further by decanting an hour before enjoying.

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2010 Vintage) Be forewarned – the 2012 “The Point” Cabernet Sauvignon is not for the faint of heart. Many of our wines give a nod to the Old World in flavor and in style, but this wine is unabashedly Californian. For those of you who believe bigger is better, this is definitely the wine for you. It is HUGE in every sense of the word. Huge wild and grapey aromas pumped out by huge alcohol. Huge sweet-spicy and tarry flavors (think fruit-covered asphalt on a hot summer day). Huge melted tannins that go on and on in the mouth. But ‘huge’ does not have to mean out of balance. This is not like the short person pumped up on steroids (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but rather like the Amazonian god or goddess!

This wine's mix of richness and power elevates it to the top ranks in this vintage. Starting with aromas of ripe currants, dusty spice, briar, caramel and green olives and following with full-bodied, supple flavors of similarly correct focus and impressive depth, this one ends with plenty of tannin for structure and longevity but is not overwhelmed by it. Folks who favor young, deep Cabernets will find a lot to like in this mannerly but promising wine, and yet it will also reward patient cellarin...

"Offers gorgeous fruit purity, with ripe, fleshy, plush plum, currant and black cherry flavors that are framed and supported by lively acidity and firm tannins. It all adds up to a rich, concentrated, focused wine that's intense yet elegant and beautifully balanced. Best from 2009 through 2015."
