  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
16% Syrah; 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. One might expect that this wine's outgoing aromas of black cherries, pie crust, cocoa, rich oak and plump stone fruits would result in an equally expressive set of flavors. But, the wine surprises by being tighter and a tad hard to get at on the palate. It is fairly deep in character, and has the stuffing to stand up to sturdy roasts and chops, but it is not the soft, rounded Merlot one usually finds at this price level. GOOD VALUE
