(2012 Vintage) The 2012 Zinfandel takes the rich, brambly character of the variety and the subtle earthiness imparted by our Estate vineyard to another level. Aromas of Bing cherry, blackberry and fig merge with tobacco, flint and a hint of sage. On the palate, there is a certain rusticity in the chalky tannin foundation that dances in and out of focus amidst the bright acidity, dark mocha and kirsch. The latent minerality intensifies on the finish contrasting and balancing subtle notes of black pepper and toast.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2002 Vintage) A noticeable bit of muscle that is suggested by the still-nascent aromas and seconded by the tough tannic veneer that coats the ripe, oak-influenced flavors gives this wine a sense of solidity to go with its ripeness and the evident flesh of its underbelly. Allow it a few years to come around.
