Winemaker's Notes

(From 2003 Vintage) The impressive buildings of the estate were built in 1767 by Admiral Gérin of the Marseille admiralty. At that time the area was known as Val di Dieu and the wines from here were quite well known in France and abroad. The vineyards needed renovation. A kind of revolution at the estate happened when it was purchased by Gabriel Meffre in 1955. At that time only 24 hectares of vines were productive. Today the property has 70 hectares with vines around the estate. 10 of them are with white varieties. The 60 ha. for reds are planted with 60% Grenache, 24% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre and Cinsault. The grapes are destemmed read more...before fermentation. The Val de Dieu is aged for 18 months - the Syrah and Mourvedre in barrels. (hide)
