Carol Shelton Zinfandel Wild Thing Cox Vineyard Old Vine

Wine Details

Winemaker's Notes

(From 2008 Vintage) Aromas of black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit combine with a beautiful hint of vanilla-oak loveliness, smoothly textured in mouth, very creamy and round, the finish is long and has lush jammy fruit — this wine is dangerously good!

Easily the biggest and ripest of the Carol Shelton lot, this appropriately named opus is indeed wild and wholly lacking restraint. It is fat and full-bodied with a wealth of jammy, blackberry-like fruit, and it fights gamely and with some success to hide its ample 16% alcohol. Still, it gives ground to heat and astringency at the end, and its slightly shaky sense of control tags it as one best teamed with richer cheeses and very full-flavored foods.
