(2013 Vintage) Old Vine Mendocino Zinfandel is a treasure. Grown on the benchlands and slopes of mountainsides — this wild-looking old vine Zinfandel offers fruit that winemaker Carol Shelton, with her 35+ years of experience and creativity, has transformed into a wine that is concentrated yet soft, creamy and full of flavor. Our Wild Thing® Zinfandel was named for the wild-looking vines and also for the uninoculated, or “wild,” yeast ferment that was used to create it. It takes a lot of effort to tame this wild fruit, but it is worth all the trouble.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(2005 Vintage) 10% Carignane. Deep, quite well-defined blackberry fruit is the driving force of this rich and generously filled Zinfandel, and, however ripe this delicious wine may be, it is never in the least bit excessive and remains in sharp fruity focus from beginning to end. Rounded in feel and full on the palate, it is firmed up nicely by a last-minute streak of finely fit tannins that ensure certain improvement for anywhere from three to six years in the bottle.
