Altesino Brunello di Montalcino

Wine Details

Wine Description

The ruby red color of this wine tends towards garnet with age. The bouquet displays ample aromas of violet, wild berries, tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. On the palate, Altesino Brunello is rich, full-bodied and velvety. With juicy tannins framing a balanced acidity, this Brunello is the wine of choice for rich dishes such as osso buco, pot roasts, barbecues and beef stew.

(1999 Vintage) "Deep, dense aromas of porcini and wild strawberry turn to fresh tobacco. Full-bodied, with tight refined tannins. The finish goes on for minutes. A big, muscular, powerful Montosoli. Austere now; needs years of bottle age. Best after 2009. 1,500 cases made. - J.S."

(2003 Vintage) Strangely this one has a nose of Italian bitters, anise and pine. It's not a warm, ripe wine. What it does give is tight, dry cherry and berry flavors with layers of complexity and intrigue. Not very woody or chewy. More old school and an enigma among so many forward, fruity compatriots.
