(From 2010 Vintage) Well, here we are, I have been sipping and savoring Silver Oak Cabernets since the mid-1970's. My notebooks tell me that I have tasted almost every vintage. The '10 Alexander Valley is pretty fine and shows just how far this iconic winery has come. This is a complete wine- ripe red currants, sweet American oak and supple tannins.
Tight, earthy and unusually tannic for this wine, with fresh earth, mineral and dried currant fruit shaded by a dill-coconut flavor.
Had with a standing rib roast and roasted vegetables. We let it breathe for about an hour and then decanted. While very good it seemed a bit tired/possibly past it's peak.
