(From 2011 Vintage) This wine displays lovely red and blue fruit aromas, supported by well-integrated accents of oak from barrel aging. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated with abundant dark berry flavors as well as savory black olive, earth and spice notes. Solid tannins offer an excellent foundation for the fruit, and will help this wine to age gracefully.
(From 2012 Vintage) The 2012 vintage has yielded a lush and appealing expression of Decoy Cabernet with alluring black cherry and raspberry jam aromas, as well as more subtle notes of nutmeg, spice and chocolate. On the palate, lovely layers of raspberry and plum are supported by excellent structure and seamlessly integrated oak.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesClassic curranty fruit combines with a bit of briary spice, hints of olives and wisps of smoke in the deeply constituted aromas and again in the well-focused flavors of this solidly structured, gutsy young wine. Its tannins are a bit abrasive just now but are never outsized or in any way threaten the wine's expression of fruit. It does not tempt premature drinking as do a couple of its mates, but it will age famously and is guaranteed to reward a wait of a half-dozen years or so.
