(From 2011 Vintage) Our 2011 3 Vineyard Pinot begins with perfect garnet color, as your nose is immediately met with elegant cherry, black cane fruit, and beautiful floral aromatics (at the intensity of a florist shop or big orange stamens). The palate shows low to moderate tannins, silk nap, a nice bitter accent on finish, and age-worthy acid. Warm a sip on the tongue - you peel layers of pie cherry, chocolate, sage, mint, rose petal, juicy summer strawberries, slight toast, and vanilla. Truly elegant, and a very appropriate representation of 2011 intensity and balance.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California WinesWith its exaggerated ripeness, as shown by its remarkable 15.5% alcohol level, played off against somewhat narrow, direct fruit, this bottling seems to be going in two directions at one and the same time, and it never quite gets its disparate pieces in full and comfortable alignment. Still, there are things to build on here, and a bit of patience could reward.
