(From 2011 Vintage) Lively, with good lift and floral aromatics followed by a fresh mix of red cherry, black cherry, red currant and black currant. Nice tarry edge creeps in on the finish.
(From 2009 Vintage) Probably the finest Haut-Bages Liberal since the 1982, this beautifully rich wine has an inky purple color, a big, sweet kiss of creme de cassis, incense, some background spicy oak and forest floor. Its gorgeous fruit, full-bodied opulence, impressive purity, expansive texture and broad, savory finish.
Château Haut-Bages-Libéral (Pauillac) 2003: Good, youthful and fresh fruit on the nose, still with some nutty oak. Ripe and rounded fruit on the palate, and here we have ripe, supple, slightly meaty tannins nicely knitted into the fruit and texture that this wine possesses. A supple mouthfeel, firm fruit and a lovely style.
Their 2003 is especially good, with a rich, dark colour, a pure black fruit nose and attractive, suave fruit with ripe tannins on the palate. This classy wine has an impeccable sense of balance, and would be an excellent choice for medium-term drinking.
