2003 Château d'Yquem Sauternes

Wine Description

(From 2008 Vintage) There is a lovely purity to the fruit and clear botrytis concentration, if less than in the great years. Has all the hallmarks of a fine, elegant Yquem. A very polished, well-presented sample.

Winemaker's Notes

Tasting Notes :The color is already a very pale yellow. The nose has intense fresh fruit aromas (pineapple, passion fruit and mango) accompanied by very attractive floral nuances (rose and acacia blossoms) as well as a touch of vanilla. This wine has a great deal of personality on the palate as well as beautiful volume, substance, and a perfect balance between alcohol, sugar and acidity. The overall equilibrium is extremely elegant and lively. The complexity , smoothness, and length this wine will acquire during barrel aging are sure to make this an altogether impressive Yquem.

"Intense aromas of pineapple, honey, vanilla and apple pie. Full-bodied, with rich fruit that gives a cream, pineapple and honey character, yet the wine is compacted and reserved. Long and lively. This has more of a kick at the end compared with the 2001, but the 2001 has the edge still with its racy acidity. Who knows? Could be another 100-pointer; could even be better than the 2001. Score range: 95-100 - JS" The Wine Spectator Also scored 94-96 Points Robert Parker - no tasting note given
