Wine Description

(2009 Vintage) If the Cain Five is utterly unique, distinctive in both aroma and taste, this can only reflect the Cain Vineyard, which gives birth to this wine and is both spectacular and idiosyncratic. Composed of the five classic varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot—Cain Five epitomizes the benefits of blending to achieve a complex wine. It is supple and rich of texture, combining a full, firm structure with a long and subtle finish.

  • Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
(1997 Vintage) 87% Cabernet Sauvignon; 11% Cabernet Franc; 1% Petit Verdot; 1% Malbec. Perhaps more properly labeled as "Four" rather than "Five" in its present version, Cain's prestige cuvee is a study in contrasts and earns high marks for its deep fruit, lavish oak and invitingly fleshy palatal feel. It is less laudable, however, for its persistent old bark and saddle-leather qualities, and it gets pushed just wide of recommendation by its abrupt, overtly drying finish.
