Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines(From 2001 Vintage) If a far less flamboyant effort than the winery's flagship "Halo" release, this careful, incisively fruity and deceptively deep wine is a solid success in its own right. It marries elements of currants, cream, vanilla, sweet smoke and herbs in the nose and follows suit on the palate with a nice range of like-minded flavors. It is again a wine of real polish and very fine balance, and the grippy tannins that firm up its finish will melt away nicely over the next five to eight years.

Wine & Spirits(From 2004 Vintage) This blend appears to be very concentrated. It has a deep ruby/garnet core with a lighter, purple outer rim. It has an open nose, full of figs and cassis, oak, vanilla extract and chalk. This is a full body wine with firm tannins, balanced acid and a nice long finish. Pair this wine with a confit of salted duck leg, garlic and shallots, wilted mustard greens and warm German potato salad. The plate might sound a little abstract but the pair will do the trick.
